GUMC – Gel/Blot Imagers
The medical center maintains multiple gel and blot imagers and X-ray film processors at various locations throughout the medical center campus. The location, type, and a brief description of their basic functions and capabilities are provided below. These systems are available to all members of the GUMC community. Please clean up after yourself, and leave the systems in the condition that you would like to find them in. For questions or concerns, please contact Mark Antonelli, Manager, GUMC Operations @ 202.687.1497.

The Amersham Imager 600 provides a robust imaging system to capture and analyze protein and DNA sample gels and membranes in high resolution. The multi-functional imager operates in chemiluminescence, fluorescence and colorimetric applications, and analyzes the images with onboard software quickly and easily. User manual PDF
Azure 300
The Azure 300 is a powerful imaging system that images gels and membranes using a 9.1MP high resolution CCD camera that is deeply cooled to -50°C relative and regulated to -20°C absolute. Imaging light sources and abilities include: UV302nm, UV365nm, blue light excitation for DNA safe dyes, chemiluminescence, colorimetric imaging, and grey-scale imaging. This system is upgradeable to image fluorescence-based gels, blots, and other assays. User manual PDF
Azure 600
The Azure 600 is the most flexible CCD-camera based system on the market to capture imaging of gels, membranes, and other assays. Imaging light sources and abilities include: UV302nm, UV365nm, blue light excitation for DNA safe dyes, chemiluminescence, colorimetric imaging, grey-scale imaging, RGB (628nm, 524nm, 472nm, respectively), and NIR (685nm and 784nm, respectively). Automatic standby mode to conserve water and energy use Stable dryer and developer temperatures Light tight feed tray cover 17-inch wide film transport. Many small films can be processed side-by-side
The Konica Minolta SRX-101A film processor has three processing cycle speeds set inside the processor.
- 90 Second Super Rapid Processing Cycle
- 120 Second Standard Processing Cycle
- 180 Second Extended Processing Cycle
GE Amersham 600 UV
The Amersham Imager 600UV provides a robust imaging system to capture and analyze protein and DNA sample gels and membranes at high resolution. This multi-functional imager operates in chemiluminescence and UV fluorescence and analyzes the images with onboard software quickly and easily. User manual PDF
Mini-Med 90
90 Second processing cycle – 90 Films per Hour. EP version processing time is 180 seconds for greater clarity in mammography. Accepts all standard film sizes Infra-red Dryer conserves energy while drying films rapidly. User manual PDF
Things to remember when using the space:
- Please read the instruction manual carefully before attempting to operate any of the imagers listed above
- The instrument must be used only for the intended purpose of gel documentation in research laboratories
- This instrument is suitable for research use only. It must be used, therefore, only by specialized personnel who know the health risks associated with the reagents that are normally used with this instrument.
